Using Agar and Liquid Culture

Are you ready to step up your mycology game and open up a whole new realm of possibilities? Would you like to start cloning wild mushrooms and store your cultures for longer periods? And much, much more?

What to expect
This 3 hour workshop will teach you 

  • how to make and pour agar; 
  • how to make, inoculate and  troubleshoot liquid media;
  • deepening your knowledge of mushroom cultivation
  • agar transfers, quartering, and cleaning cultures; 
  • making culture slants for long term storage
  • basics of (cross)breeding mushrooms

Although we will teach ‘low tech’ methods where possible, it is recommended that you use a pressure cooker and flow hood for a lot of the techniques. You will receive a tutorial for building your own, cheap flow hood. Small pressure cookers can be purchased from upwards of 100 euros.
